We believe in bath tubs. And in unique rooms with a little story to tell. This is what differ those rooms from others. Located in one of Sweden´s most spectacular hotels.
"Petrus and Kristinas Chamber” is what we call Knights Chamber, located with a half step level in the room with a grand lit bed of 180 cm and the bed head embraced by a small stone vault. The butterfly shaped bath tub is placed in the room itself near the bed. Small tiled bathroom with shower/wc on the lower level. This is the only room in the hotel that has a tiled floor, it just looked so nice! However it demands slippers! (In lamb fur – you will find them in the closet.) You may get a glimpse of the Baltic Sea during the non-leafy seasons. Very popular room amongst younger wedding couples. (We truly can´ t say why.)
“Albert of Rigas Chamber”, the second Knights Chamber is located in the 14th century part of the hotel, has limestone plastered stonewalls in red ochre and and Gotlandic pine on floors. The grand lit bed bed (180 cm) in solid wood has high bed poles and curtains. It is a true Princess and the pea – bed! The tiled bathroom has an oval bath tub covered by a grotto-like stone ceiling and of course a wc. You may see a glimpse of the Baltic Sea through the alley leading to the Botanical Garden. This is one of our calmest rooms, that we still have´nt heard any rumours about ghosts.
"The room facing the Mulberry trees” is the third and largest Knights Chamber, facing Northwest and located in our 19th century house. This one has an raw original limestone wall where you can follow the construction phases as it changes to brick. The wood panel walls are tinted in a very warm yellow ochre with a 18th century copied trim in Prussian green – a common contemporary mix. This room has a double bed with hand forged gables, a spacious bathroom with bath tub and clinkered floor and walls, shower and wc. The bathroom offers an open view of the Medieval church ruin of The Holy Spirit (inaugurated in 1201). The mulberries grow all summer and early autumn, they are very tasty. This Knights Chamber does not have a sea view, and it does´nt matter. We promise you-
"The Bishops little favourite room” is a category of itself, with its own entrance directly from the park. It has a tiled corner bath tub in the room and a beautiful original limestone raw wall. (Actually, and this is something we don ´t want to spread, but – you can lay in the bath tub and watch tv.) The bed is a grand lit 160 cm with hand forged iron gables, and – as the name of the room reveals – it is dedicated to someone special – so the top of the bed poles are portraying a Bishop! All in the eyes of our local blacksmith Niko Caspers. This room has a wooden floor and white stained ceiling. A small bathroom with shower and wc tiled with Italian clinker. By some reason this bathroom has a make up mirror, probably to compensate for its tinyness.
"The Italian envoy´s Chamber” is also a category of itself.
Our most spacious, beautiful room of approx 37 sq meters. It´s facing soth towards the Cathedral of S:t Mary and the Bishop´s residence. This room is breathing calm more than any other! Timber framed plastered walls, a stained dark brown wood slop roof, tiled dormer windows – and a light floor of soft Gotlandic polished pine wood. This room also has a beautiful piece of furniture, the free-standing bath tub. It is placed on a circle of tumbled Gotlandic lime stone. The wooden wall is painted in a Ultramarine blue (the Latin translation is “beyond the Sea”) a color that was manufactured by the identically named gem until 1820 when less costly methods appeared. The Carpe Diem bed with hand forged gables offers you a total sleeping area of 210 cm. The cosy bathroom has shower and wc with Italian tiles, limestone mosaic and a huge mirror over a limestone board and ceramic basin. This room really breathes calm. We are convinced that somebody has lived here in a very harmonic and mellow state of mind.
All Theme rooms differ from each other. However the room type "Knights Chambers" have more similarities. Due to availability we cannot guarantee you a specific room (except for "The envoy´s" and "The Bishop´s favorite").
Wifi, flatscreen tv, minibar, hairdryer – oh this is so annoying to repeat – we provide you with all that modern stuff, it makes life easier for some, the rest of you can just neglect it!
Look at the pictures and loose yourself into dreams of staying at The Medieval Hotel in Visby, Gotland - the largest island in The Baltic Sea.
